A Seasonal Appreciation List!
Happy Fall, everybody!
The best season of the year has started. I was more than ready for it this year {I mean, I'm ALWAYS ready for fall, but this year, it has been greatly anticipated}.
Whether you also share my love of autumn or not {and if that's the case, how are we friends? 😉}, I don't think it is possible to get on any kind of social media site, whether it be Facebook, Pinterest, or Instagram, and not see at least one cutesy fall bucket list. I love looking at them, but my issue is usually they include things I don't much care about--or, in the case of 2020, things that aren't happening this year.
Since I love a good list, I've decide to create my own feasible fall bucket list. Some of these things are Halloween-centric, and some are just autumnal in nature.
Enjoy a fall-ish beverage!
Hot apple cider, pumpkin flavored coffee, spicy tea, mulled wine - any and all will be happening! When I was at Barnes and Noble the last time, I got a cranberry autumn tea latte...so yummy!
Make a new pumpkin recipe!
I love my pumpkin pie fluff dip and pumpkin scones, but I have so many things I've pinned or collected through the years that it would be fun to try something new. Pumpkin breakfast rolls, anyone?
Decorate a pumpkin!
As much as I love tromping through a pumpkin patch, I also enjoy supporting our local pumpkin growers by purchasing pumpkins straight from the hayrack. I know of at least three places within just a few miles of my house where I could get one, and I also saw some super cute new decorating ideas that don't involve carving! Stay tuned for pictures!
Look at some pretty leaves!
As much as I wish I could do a New England leaf-peeping trip, my job as a school teacher pretty much nixes that. However, there is some pretty amazing foliage around here. I especially love driving by the cemetery in Onarga in the fall. There are some gorgeous trees out there. And I may even find the time to take a little jaunt up to my favorite coastal county in Wisconsin to take in the brisk fall breezes and lovely trees.
Watch a spooky-fun movie/show {or three}!
It isn't Halloween without watching It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Or Hocus Pocus. Or Casper. And especially The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. On lots of fall bucket lists, they include watching a scary movie or two, but that just isn't my jam. Although I did love Crimson Peak - a good Gothic ghost story, I can handle. I just prefer the spooky-ish, probably-more-for-kids movies. And Ghostbusters. And you know I'm gon'sta watch the Halloween Heist episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Read some spooky tales!
I try to read at least one new {to me} Gothic novel in the fall. Last year, it was The Turn of the Screw. I spent most of the time being very confused. This year, I'm going to go with Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier {plus, there's a new movie staring Lily James coming out in October}. I already have a Gothic novel appreciation post written! Throw in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and a few Poe stories, and I think we're golden.
WEAR ALL OF THE LAYERS!
Riding boots and cozy sweaters and scarves and cute tees and cardigans and flannel shirts...I cannot even handle how ready I am to dress for fall!
I'm sure there are things I am missing, but I'd say this is a pretty good starting point! If you have some ideas on things I should add, comment and let me know! And if you try any of these things for the first time, let me know what you thought. And stay tuned for a ton of fun fall content!
