Quarantine Craft Time
Right now, we are on day 32 {in Illinois} of our shelter-in-place/quarantine. I can both totally believe it has been that long and also cannot believe it is April 22. Time, quite literally, has no meaning.
One of the most fun things I have seen coming out of this extra time at home is all of the crafting! People have been taking this as a chance to be creative, whether they are using only supplies they have at home or buying them and picking them up curb-side {both Michaels and JoAnn's are offering this service!}. And people have been making videos or posting their crafting pictures with a clever hashtag.
I really do need to go through all of my crafting supplies and find some fun things to do, some projects that I just never got around to, but we'll let that be May's project, because CONFESSION OF A CRAFTAHOLIC: I don't like doing crafts unless I have the right supplies. When it comes to more in-depth crafting projects, sometimes you just need specific things.
However, there is one crafting project for which you only need two things. You know I do it. You know I love it. And {maybe} you know that I have an ample supply of both of those things in various shapes and colors.
That's right, we're talking about knitting today!
I know what you're thinking, and you're right It has been way too long since I've posted about knitting. It's about dang time, am I right?
I've been trying to use up spare yarn that is leftover from other projects, finish projects I had already started, and start projects I bought the yarn and needles for but never got around to starting.
So, without further ado, here are the amazing things I have knitted so far during quarantine!
Shrug Sweater
This was my third one this year. I had hoped to have it finished in February, but life got in the way. However, I managed to get it finished during the first few days of quarantine and delivered it right at the end of March. Extra Netflix watching for the win! {Note: this is not an actual picture of the shrug sweater I knitted, though it is close color-wise. I also think the model is wearing it inside out. I'm just really bad at remembering to take pictures of things unless they're sitting right in front of me.}
Leaf Coasters
I knitted a bunch of burnt orange and yellow leaves a few years ago, used some spray starch and an iron to flatten them, and gave them to people as gifts. They are super cute fall coasters, if I do say so myself. As I was going through my yarn basket, I found a skein of brown yarn. There aren't many projects that call for brown yarn, so I decided to knit up a bunch of brown leaves to add to the coaster sets. Think if it like an expansion pack for a game. So if I gave you some yellow and orange leaf coasters, you will be probably be receiving some brown leaves to add to your set sometime soon.
Pencil Scarf
This is another project I had started but didn't finish. The issue with these scarves is that they use A LOT of the yellow yarn, and not very much of all the others. So I have to have an endless supply of yellow yarn on hand if I plan on doing a lot of them, or I can't knit these very quickly. I started this one in the fall of 2018, just so we're clear. But it's done!
Socks!
Like real socks this time. Not that the socks I have knitted previously are not real socks. The cabin socks I knitted for Christmas gifts were done with larger needles and very thick yarn. They go up to about a person's knee and are super comfy and cozy. Plus, they're really easy to knit and don't take very long, so I am able to get a pair done very quickly.
However, I have been wanting to knit a pair of regular socks for quite some time. I have had the supplies for so long that I actually forgot I had them and bought the supplies again. However, the yarn and needles are so small that even a long amount of time spent knitting does not yield tremendous visual results. And it is much more difficult to watch TV and knit these {at least right now} because I'm not used to the feel of this yarn yet. But I am super optimistic and excited to see how they turn out!
These projects, though, haven't even put a dent in my yarn stash {get excited, anyone who might be getting a gift from me in the coming year}. And I may have bought more yarn right at the beginning of quarantine because some awesome sites were having some amazing sales, on patterns and yarn, that I could not pass up! Thanks to my fellow crafter, Abigail, for sharing!
What crafting projects have you tried? Are there any you're excited to try but haven't yet? Share your pictures and inspire the rest of us to be creative! And since it is Earth Day, why not try making something new out of something old? Like a fun lighting fixture from your empty wine bottles. Because let's face it, we all have a few of those lying around right now.
