An April List
Time for our weekly check-in. How are you doing?
I'm...fluctuating. There are moments when I am okay. There are moments when I am not okay.
And I think, wherever you are on the spectrum of okay-ness, that's okay, too.
Right now, it is totally fine if you are fine. Some of us {introverts especially} were built for this. And it is also totally alright if you are not fine. It is okay if you are looking at the bright side. It's cool if you are missing parts of your life. If you are making yourself a list in the morning and powering through it so you feel accomplished, good for you. If you are laying on your couch all day watching Netflix and eating cookies, good for you. There is no "right way" to handle this. As long as you are maintaining as much social distance as you can, then you are all good in my book. Don't feel guilty for not cleaning your whole house. Don't feel guilty for missing your weekly massage appointment. Don't feel guilty for watching bad tv or eating junk.
Just do what makes you feel good. As long as it isn't a dangerous habit or behavior, I'm not going to judge you.
So, what makes me feel good?
Lists.
Making lists. Reading lists. Crossing things off lists. Saying the word "lists" so much that it doesn't even sound like a word anymore...
Anyway, on to the list!
My Current Book
I finally finished The Fiery Cross. It only took me about three days, once we were in quarantine and I couldn't do anything else for hours on end.
I've shifted to The Lost Lieutenant by Erica Vetsch. I'm going to give you a tip here, so listen closely. If you find books that you really like, start following that publishing company online. Read their blogs. Like their posts. What I have found is when I do this, I find writers at the beginning of their careers. I'm able to interact with them, and then later on, when they need readers to review things, they send me their books! Okay, there are a few more steps involved than that, but that's basically how I got this book sent to me. I really like it so far, and there's a super nerdy reason why. It's a Regency-era book, which means the time of Jane Austen. And the main characters are a newly-christened Earl and his new bride who spend a portion of the novel fixing up the manor house and the grounds and such. I love those kinds of plot lines. And she makes lists, people! Lists upon lists...she even has a list of all of her lists!
But really, that is a very small part of the story line. The Earl has lost part of his memory, and the Countess has a secret she is keeping from her husband. Might the two things be related? I have no idea because I'm not far enough in the book yet, but my guess is yes!
My Current Podcast
I managed to finish all of the The Goblet of Fire and The Order of the Phoenix episodes of Binge Mode, so I have switched for the month of April back to Bonnets at Dawn. With all of my new spare time, I should be able to get through an episode a day, which will get me through the year 2017, I think. I really need to choose podcasts that don't already have a hundred episodes.
My Current Shows
I have started Schitt's Creek, so everybody can just calm down now. I've finished season 1, but I had to take a break. The further I got in the season, the more I liked it, but it definitely wasn't an instantaneous thing. I'll probably work on season 2 this week or next.
I did finish watching The Imagineering Story on Disney+. It was so, so good! So much Disney history I didn't know, and they showed a lot of behind-the-scenes footage from the building of the parks and the way the development of attractions has evolved since the opening of DisneyLand.
My Current Tea
During quarantine, I have been drinking a lot more tea than I usually do, probably because I have 24/7 access to a kettle. So I have been going through my stash of tea, trying to finish up some of the blends I've had for awhile. This Jane Austen-themed sampler set has only a few left in it. Each little pouch is good for like 5 cups of tea, which makes it perfect! Right now, I'm drinking Sense & SensibiliTEA. Have I mentioned how much I love wordplay?
My Current Scent
I put a new scent in my Scentsies last week, and it is surprisingly yummy. It smells almost like the way an old study or library would, one where the owner used to sit and smoke a pipe while reading. A hint of tobacco, mahogany, vanilla, and brown sugar. Sounds like an odd combination, but it is very palatable.
My Current Coffee
I've also been drinking a lot more coffee than normal. Again, the perks of being able to go back to the coffee pot whenever I want. Today, the flavor was Hazelnut Creme. Oh so yummy!
What is getting you out of bed and through the day? Are you finding any simple pleasures that are keeping you sane? Share them, please! And maybe next week, I'll change things up...we'll talk about the things we are craving instead. Though that might just be cruel and unusual punishment, so I'll have to think on that.
