Day 9: Bullet your Day

  • 6:00. Alarm went off. Pressed "snooze" three times.
  • Finally turned alarm off. Grabbed phone, checked Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, played 7 Words, read Bible.
  • Washed face, etc.
  • Turned on straightener. Got dressed. Made coffee.
  • Straightened hair. Drank coffee. Made lunch. Ate cereal.
  • Brushed teeth. Left for school.
  • Mailed some bills.
  • Rocked out to Maroon 5 on the way to school.
  • Returned papers, made copies, checked e-mail, changed job chart.
  • Waited for kids to come upstairs.
  • Had kids color football players during art.
  • 1st Social Studies class came in. Forgot to tell them to bring scissors. Felt unprepared.
  • 2nd Social Studies class came in. Went much better.
  • Got the kids down to lunch.
  • Ate my lunch.
  • Graded papers.
  • Sent kids on their way.
  • Put grades in.
  • Taught English--went okay.
  • Tried not to faint in the heat. 3rd Social Studies class went well.
  • Homeroom came back.
  • Ate cupcakes for birthday and read them The Hobbit.
  • Didn't get as far in the Social Studies lesson but that's okay.
  • Got the kids to the bus on time!
  • Graded papers, added in missing grades, worked on curriculum map.
  • Drove home. Sang along with Anna Kendrick before stopping at library to return and pick up a book.
  • Came home. Immediately felt better in the air conditioning.
  • Watched Hell on Wheels. Can't wait to see where this goes!
  • Got ready for church meeting.
  • Went to church meeting. Came home 2 hours later.
  • Ate a hot dog and a pickle while rapping out my dating issues with my sister.
  • Did blog entry while waiting to take a shower.
  • Plan on watching The Munsters and eating a Dilly Bar before going to bed.
  • Told my faithful readers to stay gold :)

Yesterday, there was an election. Did you vote? I'm not asking for whom; as I told my students, I can't discuss that. The privacy of the voting booth could be likened to that of a priest or doctor/patient confidentiality {at least when you teach school...not everyone falls under that level of secrecy}. When my students asked me who I voted for, I told them I couldn't tell them because I wasn't allowed to influence their opinions or views on things. Over the Hills & Everywhere

Today I had the opportunity to hear some local music students play Christmas pieces on the piano. When you really think about it, music is an absolutely amazing creation. By taking a series of random sounds together, you can form a melody, and once that basic melody is complete, you have an infinite number of options for a harmony. You can take a simple song and put it into a minor key, giving it an ominous feel, or jazz it up with some runs and a repeating pattern in the bass. You can syncopate the notes to your choosing, and each time, you create a new piece of music:  a new way of listening to something familiar. I think that is one of my favorite things about Christmas music.
